How to stream Apple’s WWDC 2021 keynote with your friends

The clock is ticking. WWDC is about to set off in three days. The things that make WWDC a memorable experience are the hype sowed by rumors prior to the keynote on the first day, Tim Cook’s “Good Morning” chant, the announcements themselves, and finally; the fact that you get to share that excitement with your friends.

There are multiple ways you can watch Apple’s Keynote on 7th June; which I’ll share in a minute. But nothing compares to watching the event live with your friends. Since the pandemic has barred us from gathering in a place, thankfully, services exist that let you stream videos together even if you’re friends are in different countries.

That said, here’s how to watch Apple’s WWDC 2021 live stream with your friends

Using Watch2Gether

Watch2Gether is a free service that lets you create video rooms that you can invite your friends over to by sending them a link. The website plays videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, music from Soundcloud, and a host of content from other platforms. Interestingly, it also supports live video playback on YouTube.

This means you’ll be able to stream Apple’s WWDC 21 Keynote from YouTube right on Watch2Gether. In order to do that, you’ll need to create a room, give yourself a nickname, invite your friends, enter the YouTube URL for the Keynote, and play it.

The video room’s interface includes a video player. Unfortunately, you cannot expand it into full-screen mode. This is to let you chat with other members in the room while the video is playing. Apart from that, you can also share your screen, audio, and video with room members.

This way, you’ll be able to share your excitement and ensuing reactions with your friends as the event is happening.

Here’s how to create a new video room, invite friends over, and watch the WWDC21 Keynote at Watch2Gether:

  1. Head over to Watch2Gether.com.
  2. Click on the “Create your room” button at the center of the web page.
  1. Upon prompting, enter your nickname.
  1. Now, it’s time to invite your friends. In order to do that, simply copy the room link from the top right corner of the web page and sent it to your friends. Once they click on the link, they’ll automatically enter the room.
  1. Then, copy the YouTube link for Apple’s Keynote live stream and paste it into the search bar on the website. Here’s the link: “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TD96VTf0Xs” (copy without brackets).
  2. The Keynote’s thumbnail should appear, click on it to begin the live stream.

Ways to watch the WWDC 2021 Keynote by yourself

YouTube

The best way to watch any Apple event is via YouTube. Since it’s the most popular video platform, you can access it almost anywhere, on any device.

Another detail that makes watching Apple events on YouTube worth is the fact that it’s usually seconds ahead of Apple’s other streams.

You can also watch it right here from this YouTube embed:

The Apple Events Web Page

Apple’s live stream will be accessible from the Apple Events web page as well. You can watch the keynote on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, an Android device, a Windows or Linux machine on select browsers such as Safari (only available on Apple devices), Chrome, Firefox, and more.

If you’ve got an Apple device, Safari is the browser you can depend on since it has always supported Apple Event streams. However, there’s a chance you might not be able to stream from the Apple Events web page if you’re using an unsupported browser. So, it’s imperative to use an updated browser or one that has MSE, H.264, and AAC codecs/extensions enabled.

Apple Developer App

Apple’s Developer app is a decent portal for both developers and enthusiasts to watch WWDC. The app is available on most Apple devices including the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Mac.

Apart from that, you can also head over to Apple’s developer website to watch the Keynote.

Apple TV App

The Apple TV app is accessible on almost every Apple device, including the Apple TV set top box. Apart from that, the app is now also available on many TV platforms including popular ones like Android TV, Google TV, Roku, Nvidia Shield, and more.

This means if you’re looking for an immersive WWDC Keynote experience, you can now watch it on the relatively bigger screen of your TV provided you have the hardware and the platform that is capable of hosting the Apple TV app.

Once you’re in the Apple TV app, you can search for the term WWDC ahead of the Keynote and select from the results.
