The 44 Best VR apps for iPhone And Android!

It's all about the degree of immersion!

Virtual Reality is interesting, isn’t it?

If you think otherwise, this article is just for you! Here are some of the best VR apps for iPhone. I can’t stress this enough: these apps will change your perception of the potential that Virtual Reality holds.

From embarking on rollercoaster rides to a trip to the prehistoric past to a swim through neurons in a character’s brain, these apps will transport you to a different world.

They’ll reassure you that VR on iPhones — and smartphones in general — is not a gimmick. Moreover, it’s not just these apps; any good VR app, in general, can have such an effect on you.

Just look around. You’ll notice that almost everyone is indulging in virtual reality these days. According to a virtual reality demographics study by GlobalWebIndex, VR awareness in the US and the UK has reached around 90%.

That’s fantastic, and most of it is owing to the attention the topic has garnered from news and VR-compatible events like the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics. Cheaper VR headsets have also reeled in a fair share of user attention lately.

So, it’s safe to say that VR apps are getting popular day by day. In fact, people are expected to spend up to a total of $3.77 Billion on VR content and apps by 2021.

If that’s not an indication, I don’t know what else could be. VR and AR are going to be big in the future and will probably become ubiquitous in our daily lives.

Apple is also heavily investing in this technology. In May, it acquired NextVR — a virtual reality streaming company — that would foray its plans of developing this technology. According to a recent Bloomberg report, the company is also working on its own set of AR glasses and a VR/AR headset that is internally codenamed N421 and N301 respectively.

The current prototype of the VR headset that’s being internally developed at Apple, according to the Bloomberg report, has a similar design to the Oculus Quest.

That said, the company’s stance towards virtual reality and the reported progress it’s making is enough evidence that VR apps are only to become more significant in the future.

Here are the best iPhone VR apps…

Hold on! What’s Virtual Reality (VR)?

Virtual Reality is the virtualization of real life. The technology aims to create a stimulating environment by targeting almost all of your senses to the point that it becomes difficult to differentiate between reality and virtual reality. That’s the goal VR is trying to achieve, at least.

With the help of VR, you can easily get immersed in a virtual world. Anything is possible there. For instance, you can dive into the depths of the ocean without even getting wet. Or, maybe, try piloting a spaceship and crash into an asteroid but miraculously end up alive.

People immersed in Virtual Reality.
People immersed in Virtual Reality.

According to Marxent, “Unlike traditional interfaces, virtual reality places the user inside an experience.”

A virtual reality system works on a base. And that base is a computer. The computer generates graphics necessary for displaying VR content on a head-mounted display — which is the second most important component that’s needed.

The display has to project images at a high resolution and with almost perfect colors to make the content believable and more immersive. Any component failing leads to a subpar virtual experience that is no better than the content we consume on regular screens every day.

Currently, the tech industry is contesting among itself as to who betters the immersion experience with their wearable devices. For a virtual reality experience to be worthwhile, the headset has to be comfortable, has to provide good immersion with the help of video and audio technology, and has to be affordable for the end-consumer.

And with devices like Google’s Daydream, the Oculus Quest, the PlayStation VR, and whatever headset Apple plans to launch ahead; we’re getting there soon. There’s also something else that might confuse you when learning about VR. And that is Augmented Reality (AR).

But, it’s not at all confusing if you look at it this way. While virtual reality transports you to a virtual environment, augmented reality brings the virtual environment to you.

I better not digress for the sake of this article, but this is what you need to remember whenever you find yourself at crossroads while understanding VR and AR.

What are some examples of VR in use?

VR has gotten pretty commonplace. Many companies use the technology in their marketing campaigns, for one.

#volvoreality campaign.
#volvoreality campaign.

VOLVO ran a campaign titled “#volvoreality” wherein it created a virtual experience of a drive through the hills in its XC 90 Luxury SUV. The campaign garnered quite the attention online, gaining over a million impressions and earning some mainstream media popularity.

Not a marketing campaign per se, but another company named BetterCloud used VR to lure applicants and simplify their hiring process. People could view the VR experience that contained tours of the workplace at BetterCloud to probably gain a perspective or even get accustomed to the ambiance. This would get more and more people to apply.

While these were the more constitutional uses of VR, it can also be used for, well, having fun.

Person Playing a game on a VR headset.

If you’re up for an adventure at this exact moment, you can always head on to RedBull’s YouTube channel and look out for any of its VR videos. As thrilling as they seem, it’s hard to notice that it’s a fantastic use of virtual reality.

Most arcades today contain at least one VR-based game. While they seem cheap and underdeveloped, it’s a new experience that people love to furnish.

Then there are the apps that you can get on your smartphones which I will talk about soon. The point is, I could go on and on listing real-life examples of VR and the process would be never-ending. That is the ubiquity of VR today. And it’s got me excited.

How do I watch VR on my iPhone?

Despite being a fairly novel technology, VR is accessible on almost every device you own. There are two things you need, however, to take complete advantage of virtual reality content.

First is a VR player app.

What is a VR player app? You may ask.

Example of a VR player app.
Example of a VR player app.

Well, think of it as a video player that possesses special capabilities to play VR content. The only differentiator here is that VR players offer controls specific to the VR experience.

If you have ever asked, “how do I turn my iPhone into VR mode?” Downloading a VR player is the answer.

The most common VR content is produced in .mp4, .mov, and .mkv format with a h.264 codec. So, you might need to find apps that are capable to play VR content. There are a lot of them on the App Store but finding one with quality is difficult.

I’ve found that “VRPlayer: 2D 3D 360 Video” is a simple, yet effective option. It allows you to watch YouTube VR content along with the videos you have saved elsewhere within your iPhone or on the cloud. The app also offers a bunch of settings to hone the viewing experience. So feel free to personalize.

The second requirement is a VR headset.

Oculus Go Portable VR Headset.
Oculus Go Portable VR Headset.

You might have noticed these at least once up until now. They’re everywhere. So much so that they’ve become the icon for virtual reality.

VR headsets are devices that feature optics that accentuate the immersion virtual reality offers. These devices seemingly transfer you to a different, virtual world. It’s as if you are the one reliving the content on the screen.

That said, VR headsets aren’t necessary to access virtual reality content. They are essential to the experience, sure. But you can live without them and still enjoy consuming VR content.

If you decide to buy them nevertheless, here are some great options:

How can I watch VR without equipment?

The equipment in question here certainly is VR headsets.

While you can watch VR content without a pair of VR goggles or headsets, it won’t be the same immersive experience you could get with them. But it’s doable. You’ll be able to watch VR videos just as you’d watch a regular video. Albeit, you’ll be able to use both your fingers and the in-device gyroscope to interact with VR videos.

But if you get a chance to use a VR headset, use it.

Best VR Apps for iPhone

Now that we’ve learned everything we potentially need to learn about Virtual Reality, it’s time to take a look at the portals that enable us to interact with it. Here are the best VR apps for iPhone.

This is an extensive app list that consists of the best iPhone VR apps. I initially sorted these based on popularity, but that didn’t seem to be the best idea due to the unavailability of accurate app metrics. So, instead, I chose the difficult path.

I compared apps from a number of sources on the internet and tested all of them personally. So the way I’ve enlisted them here is taking into consideration the approximate popularity of each app, how easy it is to use, and how useful it is.

Kindly read along.

YouTube

YouTube 360 Degree Videos. Best VR apps for iPhone
YouTube VR

YouTube is the holy grail of VR content. It was probably one of the first services to offer VR content to people en masse. What makes YouTube the best VR app is the fact that it is both already extremely popular and easily accessible at the same time.

You don’t need special hardware to play VR experiences within the YouTube app. Any phone that is capable of running the app is capable of playing VR videos as well.

YouTube hosts tons of VR videos and experiences that are often dubbed under the “360°” label. You can simply search for one or visit YouTube’s dedicated VR channel.

Navigating a video is as simple as resting your finger on the screen and dragging it around. However, as I mentioned above, you’ll best enjoy it with a headset or a pair of goggles. Don’t get addicted, though.

Google StreetView

Google StreetView VR: Best iPhone VR apps.
Google StreetView VR

When I was a kid, I used to travel to different places right from my desktop. It was magical. I called it “teleportation.” But it was really just Google Streetview doing its job.

Kid you not, I still enjoy meandering within the streets of Italy every now and then. But it has gotten much, much better with Virtual Reality support. Now, you can simply pop on a headset and virtually transport yourself to a new place you’ve never been to before.

That’s amazing in and of itself. It’s a more natural way of interacting with the service than using your fingers: you simply turn your head as you would in reality and the technology does it for you virtually.

Google Cardboard

Google Cardboard
Google Cardboard

Google Cardboard is the companion app for Google’s Cardboard Virtual Reality headset. The headset’s been discontinued (you can easily make one for yourself right now, though) but Google still continues to offer its app.

It consists of a home screen that features several recommendations for VR experiences. Those include suggestions for downloading apps, watching featured videos, and more.

There are several distinct experiences as well including a kaleidoscope, city hikes, 3D artifacts from museums, and a spectacular Arctic journey. If this isn’t one of the best VR apps for iPhone, I don’t know what is.

Roller Coaster VR

Roller Coaster VR
Roller Coaster VR

Ask yourself this: Is Virtual Reality really complete without a roller coaster experience?

The answer will probably be a stark “no.” Thankfully, Roller Coaster VR is the app that fills this void. It’s no regular roller coaster app. Because it utilizes Virtual Reality, it can completely immerse you in the experience.

And by that, I mean you get the same gut feeling that ensues when you hail on an actual roller coaster ride. Just make sure you’ve got a decent headset and a trash bin to puke in, just in case. All-in-ll it’s a great entry point if you’re trying out VR for the first time.

FullDive VR

FullDive VR
FullDive VR | Source: Medium

FullDive VR is a social media platform for VR enthusiasts. The app claims to have millions of user-generated content accumulated from different sources such as YouTube and Facebook. You can also interact with videos, follow your friends, share, comment, and pretty much do everything you’d do on a regular social network.

Besides, FullDive VR is kind of a Virtual Reality powerhouse. It also features more than 500 games in its library so that you get a complete taste of VR.

I like the kind of flexibility the app offers. It allows watching any YouTube video in VR. Plus, you can also store your pictures and videos in VR. But that’s not where FullDive intends to stop. Its App Store product page states that more content is coming, along with new modes of interaction.

For one, you’ll soon be able to browse the internet in VR. I’ve always wanted to be inside the internet. Now, maybe FullDive is the app that helps me inch closer to that dream.

However, the app is potentially unsuitable for kids. This is because there is a lot of content on it that’s accumulated from different sources within the app but isn’t checked due of the lack of moderation. So, take note of that.

VeeR VR

VeeR VR
VeeR VR

The wordplay here is on point. VeeR VR is an app that caters to new VR users who are yet discovering the technology. That might be you.

Instead of dumping the entire YouTube library into the app and letting you scour through the endless abyss, this app offers multitudes of carefully selected content from premium sources.

This means that when you fire up the app, you’ll see content from premium content providers like the World Bank, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Warner Bro. Studios, and more, that VeeR says “choose VeeR as their go-to platform.”

The app consists of experiences from different categories including the all-time favorite — horror. Moreover, you can delve into experiences related to travel, music, roller coaster, and even Anime.

Another feature that makes this app worthwhile is 4K streaming. You can watch almost all of these videos in 4K. This means that if you truly want to enjoy the content in all of its 4K glory, make sure you’ve got a good headset.

Aside from offering premium content, VeeR also lets you upload your own VR photos and videos to “mainstream social media platforms.” All-in-all, it’s one of the best VR apps for iPhone. So, it’s worth checking out.

Oculus

Oculus
Oculus

Oculus’ VR app isn’t so much a VR app in itself. Instead, it’s a companion for the popular Oculus Virtual Reality headsets.

The app allows you to manage different tenets of your Oculus headset. It’s just like the Steam app for the iPhone. You can buy games and experiences from the Oculus store, remotely install VR apps to your Oculus Rift or Rift S headset, reserve your virtual seat for live events, sports, and concerts; manage and monitor your Oculus devices, and a whole lot more.

I decided to include this app in this list for a reason. It’s because the Oculus lineup of VR headsets is spectacular. Oculus was the very first company that dove into VR and excelled at it, before being acquired by Facebook. And it continues to excel. So, it’s worth mentioning if there’s an app that helps support its devices.

Inception VR

Inception VR
Inception VR

Inception is yet another company that provides premium content. What differentiates it from VeeR VR is that it offers original content. It’s like Netflix for VR.

The app features tons of thrilling VR experiences including documentaries and animated videos from studios like BaoBao. It’s also one of the best iPhone VR apps that doesn’t feel like it’s raw and just out of the box. The experience feels refined and complete.

And a big part of that is owing to the app’s design. It’s minimalistic and smooth. It even works fairly well on older iPhones. I tried it on my iPhone 6, and it worked without glitching or lagging. It could have been beginner’s luck, but sometimes the first impression is the only impression that matters, right?

Neo Virtual Reality for Reddit

Neo Virtual Reality for Reddit
Neo Virtual Reality for Reddit

Reddit is a wonderful social community platform. But it sometimes gets monotonous to browse through endless cards of posts. So, why not try VR for a change.

If you haven’t noticed yet, you can find Reddit on almost every platform that exists — on the Apple Watch, on iPhones, iPads, Desktops, and now even in VR. It’s got to a point where it, being ported on VR, doesn’t seem surprising.

That said, Neo lets you browse Reddit in full-fledged Virtual Reality. And that’s it. You definitely will enjoy the app, but only for a few minutes until you realize you have to pay a hefty amount to be able to add your own subreddits.

Nevertheless, it’s a worthwhile experience that you should definitely try if you’ve got a VR headset.

InMind 2 VR

InMind 2 VR
InMind 2 VR

This is a game that’s unlike most games in VR. One of the advantages of Virtual Reality is the fact that you can reach places that you couldn’t normally.

InMind 2 VR exploits that advantage and takes you inside the brain of a teenager on the verge of becoming an adult. You are sent on a mission to change how the character develops by tweaking the neurotic connections inside its brain. And you do this by virtually swimming between the neurons in the character’s brain.

It’s a weird experience in the beginning (kind of disorienting), but you will soon get the hang of it. There might be a questing pondering in your mind right now: why am I talking about games when I’m supposed to suggest you the best iPhone VR apps?

Well, it’s simple. This isn’t a game, per se. Technically, it is. But it’s more of an educating experience that provides an insight into how a mind works. A beautiful one at that!

CineVR

CineVR
CineVR

Like I mentioned before: VR lets you reach places where you physically can’t. Normally, that wouldn’t be true for movie theatres. But taking into account the current pandemic situation and the resulting fact that movie theatres all around the world are shut, VR is exactly the tech that can help.

With CineVR, you can sit in a virtual movie theatre along with your friends and watch movies. The experience is uncanny. It’s very close to the experience you get in a movie theatre, replete with surround sound and HD video.

You need to pay for the movies just as you would in an actual movie theatre. Major titles are available for rental from Targo Studios, which is a movie rental service. All-in-all, it’s the best VR app for iPhone for watching movies.

DIVR Edu

DIVR Edu | Source: Kickstarter

DIVR Edu, as the name clearly suggests, is an educational app that lets you learn concepts in a way that’s re-envisioned for VR. For instance, you get to be a tiny dust particle and navigate through a circuit board.

It’s a novel perspective towards these concepts and I think you’re gonna love it. In terms of interactivity, it wouldn’t have hurt to have a slightly better design. The app initially offers demos to check out, but you will need to purchase additional content.

When I tried one of the demos, it was a bit glitchy. Hope DIVR fixes that.

Google Expeditions

Google Expeditions for the iPhone
Google Expeditions for the iPhone

Google Expeditions is an edu-infotainment app from Google that features elaborate experiences like strolling through art galleries, learning about atoms, and more.

Moreover, Expeditions is popular for its Virtual Reality travel experiences. It lets you pop over to different locations around the world and explore them in virtual reality. Classrooms can also benefit from this app letting teachers provide virtual reality demonstrations to students.

Since it’s from Google, it offers a more streamlined VR experience than most apps in this list. But, it doesn’t offer anything unique or awe-inspiring, so it’s so far down here.

Star Wars

Star Wars Logo
Star Wars Logo

Well, this is interesting. Star Wars fans are going to love it.

You might have pretty much guessed it beforehand what this app would offer that I’ve mentioned it in this list. It’s basically a portal for Star Wars enthusiasts to connect themselves to the franchise and simply be a fan.

The app is widely known for offering a Star Wars experience. It features news, information about the franchise, and everything else. But a major takeaway is its VR experiences.

It allows you to view short Star Wars clips in Virtual Reality. You can delve inside different experiences involving BB-8, spaceship battles, and more. It’s worth checking out if you are a Star Wars enthusiast and have got a headset or a pair of VR goggles. Thus, it’s one of the best iPhone VR apps

Within

Within VR
Within VR

The developers of Within have said “This is our love letter to the emerging art form of Cinematic VR.”

It truly is. Within is yet another app that offers cinematic VR experiences from exclusive sources. It’s different because it handpicks the best content from independent creators, studios, and film festivals from all around the world every month.

The only reason I’ve put this app this far down the list is because content in Within is limited. You’ll run out of videos to experience soon and the app will sit empty on your home screen unless you decide to watch it again or wait until the curators within Within add more experiences.

Zombie Shooter VR

Zombie Shooter VR
Zombie Shooter VR

Zombie games have been one of the more appealing genres in gaming for me. Knowing that I can immerse in such thrilling experiences using VR is even more exciting.

Zombie Shooter VR places you inside a world full of zombies and lets you ruthlessly eliminate them. You initially end up in a deserted underground tunnel which you have to walk your way out of. Throughout, zombies emerge out of the blue and try to kill you. Your job is to obliterate them out of existence.

It’s a really fun adventure to embark on, and VR makes it even more worthwhile. The amazing immersion is what made me cheat and slip in this game between the list of the best VR apps on iPhone.

DinoTrek

DinoTrek
DinoTrek

For Dino nerds like our friend Ross, you can download this app and experience what it’s like to live beside dinosaurs.

It’s a great utilization of VR, especially for kids. The app is designed in a way that doesn’t require a headset to enjoy. You can simply fire the app and start panning around the screen. However, if you (and your kids) want an immersive experience, I recommend wearing a headset.

11:57

11:57 for iPhone
11:57 for iPhone

11:57 is an immersive VR experience from Wemersive Inc. It’s a horror short-film that designates you as the main character. You live through the ups and downs within this film.

Okay, I’ve researched many VR apps for this list and I wasn’t able to find any other horror-themed app that truly shakes me to my core. This is one of the best scary VR apps for iPhone.

The element that distinguishes 11:57 from other VR horror experiences is binaural audio. Binaural audio is audio that’s recorded using two microphones that give a 3-D stereo sound output. It’s not perfect, but it’s close to real life than anything else.

Littlstar

Littlstar
Littlstar

Littlstar is a popular content curation platform that features 360 degree videos from a lot of big creators including the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Sony, ABC, and more.

The thing that makes this app great is the fact that it has a lot of content. Additionally, the app also lets you view your own content by adding an RSS feed. That’s it. Littlstar is quite popular for content consumption as it offers an Apple TV app too.

Google Arts and Culture

Google Arts and Culture
Google Arts and Culture

Google Arts and Culture is yet another app from Google that lets you utilize the benefits of VR. It offers a ton of experiences including art galleries, iconic sites, famous buildings, and natural wonders.

This app is one of the few that shine a spotlight on the importance of culture, accentuating it further using VR. That’s why it’s worth checking out.

VeeR Editor

VeeR Editor
VeeR Editor

VeeR Editor, from the makers of the strong VR wordplay, is an app that lets you edit 360 degree videos.

There aren’t many apps out there that let you do that. Thankfully, though, VeeR is enough. It features all the tools that a regular video editing app should have, because, well, 360 degree videos are essentially videos at the core.

Besides letting you adding and editing frames to your video, you can also add animated stickers and text to your videos. After you’re done editing, the app also lets you view your edited video in VR using a VR headset.

Kubity Go

Kubity Go
Kubity Go

For those who don’t know, Kubity is an “agile 3D technology that automatically optimizes and transforms models for visualization and exploration across any device.” In other words, if you have a 3D model prepared, you can easily convert it for AR and VR using Kubity.

Kubity Go is an app that lets you view those converted files on your smartphone using a headset in VR. It’s an extremely useful app if you’re a real estate agent. You can create 3D models of homes you’re trying to sell and make them viewable in Virtual Reality. Then, you can simply provide your customers with VR headsets and give them an interior as well as an exterior tour.

This could be useful especially at times like these when everyone is holed up in their homes due to stay-at-home orders.

War of Words VR

War of Words
War of Words

War of Words VR is a visualization of “The Kiss,” which is a controversial poem by Siegfried Sassoon. It takes you through a poetic journey using Virtual Reality.

“The Kiss” is a poem that was written just before the Battle of the Somme. The inclusion of this app within VR’s artistic approach is what makes this app one of the best vr apps for iPhone.

Sisters: A VR Ghost Story

Sisters
Sisters

Another VR horror story, Sisters lets you take a deep dive into a horror experience. The app features binaural audio and VR head tracking that makes using it extremely immersive.

What’s more? The characters and other elements respond to your actions in this experience. However, the only thing I would have liked better within this experience is realistic content instead of a digitally painted environment.

Virtual Campus by Circus Street

Virtual Campus by Circus Street
Virtual Campus by Circus Street

Circus Street is a company that offers courses on digital marketing. It has created Virtual Campus, which is a VR app, to immerse people into the learning process.

For instance, the app contains VR tutorials on how the internet works. And instead of a person standing and explaining the concept, there is a full-fledged animated video that the company claims will help you understand the concepts better.

Virtual Reality by 3D Bear

Virtual Reality by 3D Bear is a classic connect the dots game that you can play by moving your head and focusing your vision over the dots. It’s educational for kids. But adults can also take it for a spin once or twice.

Ceek Virtual Reality

Ceek Virtual Reality
Ceek Virtual Reality

Ceek is a unique VR app in that it allows you to experience a concert right from your home. It involves different environments where you can experience the videos. They include a spaceship, a home mini-theatre, and more.

What makes Ceek amazing is the behind-the-scenes videos of different concerts. They make you feel connected to the artists more so than ever.

The Guardian VR

The Guardian VR
The Guardian VR

Everyone knows The Guardian — the ultra-popular news conglomerate. What a lot of them don’t know is that it also has its own VR app.

The app showcases interactive experiences and documentaries from Guardian that were specifically created for Virtual Reality. The content inside is fairly limited but it’s definitely worth your time. So, if you have a headset; even if you don’t, you should check out this app.

Mentour Aviation

Mentour Aviation
Mentour Aviation

This app is for you if you usually get the hots for aviation. The aviation industry, in my opinion, is one of the prime prospects for the growth of Virtual Reality and this app puts it into perspective.

It lets you head into an immersive experience teaching you how to “setup and fly the Boeing 737NG.” Moreover, the app also contains a social section allowing you to chat with other aviation enthusiasts.

It is probably the only aviation app that offers a Virtual Reality experience. That makes it one of the best VR apps on iPhone for aviation enthusiasts.

DK Virtual Reality

DK Virtual Reality
DK Virtual Reality

Do you want to “shrink down to the size of an insect, stand at the top of a volcano, go back in time to witness a gladiator battle, and see what’s inside a T-Rex?”

If your answer is yes; which I’m sure it is, you need to check out DK Virtual Reality. It’s a simplistic app that features the kind of educational content that I mentioned above. It’s beneficial for both children as well as adults.

Make sure you have got a headset for this one.

VR Skydiving

VR Skydiving
VR Skydiving

VR Skydiving let’s you feel the thrill that you get while diving from the sky. It’s a decent app that offers quality content. However, the only thing I’d fix about VR Skydiving is the interface used to interact with the app.

Trinus VR

Trinus VR
Trinus VR

Trinus VR is a unique VR app. It doesn’t offer VR content from different sources or let you play videos. Instead, it streams games on your PC to your iPhone and lets you play them in Virtual Reality.

The mechanics of how this works is a bit sketchy. First and foremost, it streams whatever is on your PC screen directly to your iPhone. And it does so over WiFi. This means that in order to have stable gameplay, you’d need a decent internet connection. Furthermore, the games aren’t conventionally converted to be run in VR, so there’s a chance that you might not be able to play some titles at all.

Either way, if you manage to check off all the boxes above, you can rest assured that it’ll be a pleasant experience. But for a better app that does this, check below.

IVRy

IVRy
IVRy

IVRy is that app that lets you play PC games on your iPhone in VR better. What makes it better?

It features a native high-precision driver for Valve’s OpenVR/SteamVR that includes better support for playing games in VR. Moreover, IVRy also allows you to establish a USB connection with your iPhone, which is what TrinusVR didn’t support.

A USB connection in this setup is better because it facilitates faster data transfers meaning that games will appear sharper. The app also lets you scan your headset’s QR code to optimize lens distortion specific to the headset.

VirtualSpeech

VirtualSpeech
VirtualSpeech | Source: VirtualSpeech

VirtualSpeech makes you practice for real-world corporate interactions using VR. With the app, you can immerse yourself in a meeting room full of people and practice speaking in front of them.

There are other scenarios as well. However, every scenario focuses on improving your speech. VirtualSpeech is one of the very few apps that help you learn real-life skills. And it’s rightfully one of the best VR apps for iPhone.

Baobab VR

Baobab VR
Baobab VR

Baobab VR is brought to you by Baobab studios that has gained immense popularity. Over the years, the studio has received an Emmy and awards from several film festivals.

Its app features several animated experiences created by the director of Madagascar films and then some by the studio itself. The movies are fairly decent and offer a Virtual Reality experience unlike any other.

VR Noir

VR Noir
VR Noir

“You play Veronica Coltrane, a private detective forced to take a job for the money. Will you carry out your client’s wishes and cross the line?”

This is what the app’s description says. VR Noir is a decent VR app that revolutionizes how you view movies and television shows. It lets you be a part of the content instead of plainly watching it.

VR180

VR180
VR180

VR180 is the companion app for Google’s VR180 camera. The app lets you manage and save your recorded clips into the app. Moreover, the app shows you the camera’s status including battery charge, remaining storage, and more.

RRS Discovery VR Experience

RRS Discovery VR Experience
RRS Discovery VR Experience

This app takes you on a virtual tour to the RRS Discovery — an historically important ship that was used in an Antarctic exploration. The VR experience is quite fun as it lets you explore the different parts of the ship.

Moreover, you can also view the rudder and the hull, which is something that isn’t possible on a real-life tour.

StarChart VR

StarChart VR
StarChart VR

StarChart VR is an amazing app that lets you discover space and the different planets in it. The graphics within the experiences StarChart provides are great. The app lets you see a real-time visualization of he stars and planets as you could see from earth. It also lets you explore the solar system in VR.

If you are a stickler for space and planets and stuff, you’ll love this app. Again, this is yet another experience that expects using a headset.

VR Mojo Orbulus Special Edition

VR Mojo Orbulus Special Edition
VR Mojo Orbulus Special Edition

VR Mojo Orbulus Special Edition is a comprehensive VR app. In that, it offers mixed interactive experiences. Instead of focusing on a certain category of videos, the app features videos that vary a lot from each other.

For instance, the app includes experiences like traveling the world, standing on Mars, getting married, visiting the Salt Flats, experiencing the fireworks on the Hong Kong harbour, and more.

Sometimes, the varied content serves a good purpose — you get every experience you want right at one place.

YouVisit VR

YouVisit VR
YouVisit VR

YouVisit VR is yet another VR app that provides a limited library of VR. However, I’ve found the content to be decent, so I had reason to include it in this list.

Virtual Reality Optical Illusions VR

Optical Illusions VR
Optical Illusions VR

This is a mind boggling experience. Remember the times when you’d browse the web when you were bored and ended up on a website that let you try optical illusions. I know that’s specific, but the point is: those optical illusions on the web used to mess up my mind for some time. Imagine what would experiencing them in VR do?

This app lets you do exactly that!

Georgia Tech College of Computing Virtual Reality

Georgia Tech College of Computing Virtual Reality
Georgia Tech College of Computing Virtual Reality

This app from Georgia Tech lets prospective undergraduates experience parts of Georgia Tech College of Computing’s campus. You can visit a college fair full of employers, a classroom of students showing off their programming skills as they teach robots to play soccer, and more.

Qantas VR

Qantas VR
Qantas VR | Source: Qantas

Qantas is an Australian airline that’s popular all around the world. Its VR app offers unique VR experiences that more or less promote tourism in Australia. For one, the app lets you experience different locations across Australia.

But you can also hop aside one of Qantas’ pilots and experience a cockpit view on a journey. It’s a really great app if you look past its marketing appeal.

Final Thoughts

These were the top iPhone VR apps. But VR has still got a long way to go before it is accepted widely across the world. Despite its appeal, it’s for a fact that the technology is limited because smartphones aren’t designed to access VR. It’s the other way round.

Currently, almost every VR experience requires an additional accessory to enable the use of this technology on your iPhone. The only way, however, VR can gain traction is by preparing smartphones for VR; not by preparing VR for smartphones.
