5.4-inch iPhone 12 will sport a narrower notch than other iPhone 12s

This debars all previous rumors about iPhone 12's notch

Today, we learned that the iPhone 12 won’t feature a 120Hz refresh rate display after all, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. In the same report, Ming-Chi Kuo also states that the low-end 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will feature a narrower notch.

There have been conflicting reports regarding notches on new iPhones. Initial rumors suggested some iPhone 12 units would feature a smaller notch. Later, there was speculation that none of the models would feature a smaller notch and that they would remain the same size as the iPhone 11. However, today’s report debars all previous rumors and speculations and provides new information.

It is worth noting that the report states the notch will be narrower instead of smaller, indicating that the height of the notch will remain the same. This also suggests that probably none of the components that need to be placed within the notch will be placed differently on the new 5.4-inch iPhone 12.

Apple might be doing this to make enough space for the status bar elements like the battery indicator and the time which are placed beside the notch, especially because of the fact that 5.4-inches cramp up the space a little bit.

Apple is holding an event tomorrow. However, it is unexpected for new iPhones to launch then. The Cupertino company will supposedly hold three separate events out of which the October event will be dedicated to the iPhone 12 lineup.
